MISSION STATEMENT

Our mission is to design, manufacture, and test a safe remote-controlled electric vehicle by the end of April 2018 to validate the concept of an autonomous cargo-carrying system to service the University of Hawaii at Manoa (UHM) campus while utilizing technologies from the Hawaii Space Flight Laboratory (HSFL).

PRIMARY OBJECTIVES

All primary objectives come with an objective number

  • PO-1: To build an electric Autonomously Controlled Transportation Vehicle (eACTV) to safely travel to any building on the University of Hawaii at Manoa  Upper Campus.

  • PO-2: To build an eACTV that is able to keep payloads, its environment, and itself safe in all conditions.

  • PO-3: To build an eACTV that is able to carry a wide range of payloads

  • PO-4: To build an eACTV with manual and remote control capability, but designed to support fully autonomous operations

  • PO-5: To test the suitability of the HSFL’s Comprehensive Open-architecture Solutions for Mission Operations System (COSMOS) to operate the eACTV system, including the eACTV onboard software.

SECONDARY OBJECTIVES

All secondary objectives come with an objective number

  • SO-1: To promote clean energy use on campus and in Hawai’i in order to be a contributor to the Hawai’i Clean Energy Initiative (HCEI).

  • SO-2: To build UHM’s prestige as a contributor into autonomous vehicle research.

  • SO-3: To design a modular autonomous central processing unit that is easily adapted to installation in other types of eACTVs.
